AMA was created in 1998 as a need of the Albanian society to have a non-governmental organization with the aim of carrying out various activities in the field of mathematics and beyond.

  Since the year of its establishment, AMA has been officially recognized by international mathematics organizations and it is the only institution in the country that has the rights of representation in international level competitions and the organization of competitions of this level in Albania.

AMA is a social, professional, independent and non-political organization in which all scientific and teaching staff related to mathematics voluntarily join.

  Its mission is to promote mathematical scientific research, to influence the recognition of its results at home and abroad and to inform about the possibility of their application in various fields of its activity.

  One of the strategic objectives of the association is to identify, support and encourage new talents in mathematics, through dedicated activities such as competitions, Olympiads, summer schools, training camps, etc., organized in cooperation with public and private organizations.

  AMA also aims to stimulate young people’s interest in the science of Mathematics as well as to place Albania on the map of countries with sufficient capacity for organizing international events in the related field.

  Albania has been represented in the International Mathematical Olympiads and has achieved satisfactory results since 1990, but after 1998 the Albanian Mathematical Association-AMA is the institution responsible for representing the country in competitions and International Olympiads and at the same time for organizing these kind of events at country level.

AMA is one of the organizations that founded the Mathematical Society of South Eastern Europe (MASSEE) on March 1, 2003 and has been a full member since its foundation.
